Time to set the record straight!
A regular, “clockwork” menstrual cycle usually indicates that the hormonal system is functioning and that ovulation is likely occurring. Cyclicity suggests that the brain, ovaries, and uterus are communicating with each other in a rhythm that appears appropriate.
This is certainly a positive sign.
However, the fact that something works rhythmically does not necessarily mean that it works optimally.
The quality of ovulation, adequate hormone production (such as progesterone), the thickness and receptivity of the endometrium, and even the amount or duration of menstrual bleeding all play an important role. A cycle with very heavy bleeding (menorrhagia) or significant pain may indicate underlying conditions such as endometriosis or uterine fibroids.
In addition, the menstrual cycle provides information about only one part of the reproductive process.
It tells us nothing about egg quality, fallopian tube patency, the possible presence of inflammation or adhesions, or, of course, the male factor.
Fertility is a complex system that requires the proper coordination of multiple factors.
Myth #1
“If I have a normal cycle, there is no fertility issue.”
Truth: A normal menstrual cycle is a good sign, but it does not guarantee fertility. It is only one piece of the puzzle. To gain a complete picture, a comprehensive evaluation of both partners by a Reproductive Medicine Specialist is required.
